For decades after his death in 1943, Nikola Tesla was a name few in the public had ever heard. Beginning with the centennial of his birth in 1956, engineers began to remember him by naming the SI unit of magnetic flux density the “tesla” in 1960. But it wasn’t until 2003, when Tesla Motors was founded, that the public began to learn who Nikola Tesla was and the incredible contributions he made to our way of life today. Finally, people know how important Tesla was, despite efforts by Thomas Edison to take credit, and George Westinghouse took the profits from Tesla’s incredible work on alternating current, radar, radio, and many other inventions. We don’t yet understand some of the ideas Tesla was working on in his later life. Someday, maybe we will.
